Since its foundation, the Institute has maintained a multidisciplinary approach in research.

Research
The interest of our scientists is focused on the working and living environment, hygiene, health and dissemination of knowledge on industrial hygiene. Research also includes environmental pollution and radiation.

Professional services
As the government's partner, the Institute actively participates in the nation's economy, seeking to implement research results in industry and running a number of projects of national interest. We have the know-how and sophisticated equipment which makes us a good partner in all lab research projects and expertise services.

Teaching
Our scientists teach in postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, primarily at the University of Zagreb. The Institute is authorised to take on students who prepare B. Sc., M. Sc. and Ph. D. theses, and is also authorised to provide training for M. D. students who specialise in occupational health. 

Publishing
The Institute publishes scientific journal ARHIV ZA HIGIJENU RADA I TOKSIKOLOGIJU - ARCHIVES OF INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE AND TOXICOLOGY, the oldest Croatian journal of occupational health, toxicology, industrial hygiene and environmental health. Archives is official journal of the Croatian Society on Occupational Health, Croatian Toxicology Society and Slovenian Society of Toxicology. The Archives is covered by secondary publications: BIOSIS Previews, EMBASE (Excerpta Medica) and MEDLINE.
